Don't try this at home...

The adventures at the Chicken Coop never cease to amaze me. We always have something crazy happening somewhere on our farm. Last night it was in the house!!!

Those of you who know me personally know that I can't stick with the same hair color/style for long. Papa Rooster says every 4-6 weeks he always lays next to a different woman...lol. My hair has been long, it's been curly, it's had the "flip", and now it's short. I was born a dark brunette, but have been every color in the book. Very rarely the same color twice in a row. So now after canceling my hair appt yesterday due to being out of town for my job, I decided to just color my hair myself.

This is by no means my first time coloring my own hair. Up until about a year ago, this was the method. I purchased my color...Garneir Nutrisse Soft Black (Sweet Cola). Something dark to remove the fading chuncky honey and copper highlights I had put in about 5 weeks ago. I've been this color before (so something very very similar), so home I go...

I put the baby to bed and proceeded to the bathroom. I've done this so many times I don't even read the instructions. Slide on the laytex gloves, open the applicator bottle, squeeze in the color from tube, break open the avocado oil and pour in. Shake the bottle to mix. Twist off applicator tip. Begin working into hair.

Finish, look at clock, note time. I now have to wait 15-20 minutes. I walk in the living room and chat with Papa Rooster for a bit. When time's up, I return to the bathroom, towel in hand.

I turn on the water in the bathtub. Bent over the tub, head under the faucet, I glance down at the black water rising closer and closer the the rim...

I wiggle the lever to unstop the tub...NOTHING. I frantically wiggle it again...IT'S BROKEN. In a bit of a panic, I grab my towel, run to the kitchen to get a screwdriver to unscrew the broken piece. NO SCREWDRIVER. Quick, think. BUTTERKNIFE!

I break one screw loose, but the other is too tight for the butterknife to budge. PAPA ROOSTER, HELP!!!!!!!

While he is working on the broken lever stopper, I resort the the kitchen to wash the remaining dye from my hair. I wrap my head in my towel and proceed to the bedroom to dry my hair. When I'm finished drying my hair, I look in the mirror and see......

A BAD ELVIS WIG!!!! LOL. It's much darker than the "Sweet Cola" the box promised, but it's not that bad. It is much different than the lighter 'do I've been sporting lately, so it will take some getting used to. But at the end of the day, it's just hair! Bad cuts will grow back, bad color will fade, and it will be all to do over again!!!

I work in a public setting, where I see people go in and out all day long. And I have to admit I am a people watcher. I notice everything--from the shoes they have on to the pink streak in the jet black Mohawk...lol :P
Have you ever seen an amazingly beautiful woman (or handsome man) open their mouth and turn into complete ogres?!? One foul word, one nasty attitude, one mean gesture...that's all it takes to turn beauty into the beast.

This week take time to work on your appearance--INward appearance that is. Beautify your heart through God and you outward appearance will radiate too!!!

What a week!!!

This has been one of the most hectic weeks!!
Monday I worked in a differenet department, where I stayed busy ALL day. Papa Rooster rose before the chickens--4am--in order to read meters.
Chicken Little has been cutting teeth for almost a week now. We've experienced the fussiness and loss of appetite, but that seemed to be all up until yesterday.

Yesterday Papa Rooster was called to Mimi's house for some major clean-up. Chicken Little became sick--all over Mimi. I'm very proud of Papa Rooster. He helped clean her up and even changed her clothes and diaper while Mimi showered. (Mind you, he has a pretty weak stomach). He even managed to get the little wiggle worm's clothes back on her the second time...lol.
I can just see him fighting with the button down sleeper he was putting her in. (She has soiled all of her other clothing) Chicken Little twisting this way and that, squirming about everywhere. One leg in, one leg out. One arm in, two legs out. Laughing at daddy the whole time.

*And for my church friends...I hate we missed last night, but we just wanted to make sure it wasn't a virus. Oh how I'd hate to pass along a bug.*

Anyway, by around 7:30pm she was feeling somewhat better. Slept pretty well and was happy to arrive at Mimi's this morning. We're keeping her diet pretty bland today (as if baby food had some wonderful flavoring anyway LOL) just to see how she does.

I'm hoping it was just an upset stomach from the sinus drainage and teething.

Oh, and this morning we have 2 new teeth. They have finally broke the skin!!! I can't believe how fast they grow! I even bought a birthday present for her yesterday!!!!

GROWTH

I'm sitting at a fellow Christian's desk today. While looking at the pictures of her three young boys under the Bible she keeps on her desk, I come across a small piece of paper. It reads:

Go to God in prayer daily

It's so encouraging to see others live for Christ, especially in the work place. You know that no matter where you go God has placed special people in your life to help you GROW in Him---together!

So Long Ronald...

I've hit the point in life where I realize I need to change the things I can, and one thing I can change is the way I look and feel.
I'm sure you've all seen the new State Farm sponsored 50 million pounds commercials. The one with the man at the drive-thru window, ordering the "super sized" version of his meal, adding the 2 apple pies and order of onion rings... Come on now, surely you have.
How many times have you been in the drive-thru lately? Working away from home and in a town where a drive-thru is on every corner, its hard not to be tempted.
Last night I hopped up on the scales (why is beyond me) and took a double take. I weigh as much as I did at 9 months pregnant!!!!! Now mind you I only gained 15lbs while pregnant, but still!!!! That was worse feeling than the man faced at the end of the commercial.
So this morning I checked out the website. www.50millionpounds.com And I signed up. Maybe this is a start of something new.
Oh, but the friendships that will be lost. So long Ronald.... Your day's of tempting me with hot sausage biscuits and my sweet tasting medium (sometimes large) coke are over. So long Red Pigtails. No more hot crispy chicken sandwiches. Goodbye King and your sinfully delicious juicy cheeseburger. And to all you others whom I've visited along the way, "GOODBYE" to you too. Well, that is until I am on the verge of starvation (or what I think is starvation...lol) and can no longer live without the pleasure you bring my palette. =D
And all starts NOW. (But if I fail, we'll just wait til Monday...lol)

Little Changes....Big Results!!!

Things are changing at the Chicken house!!!! Saturday I cleaned out Chicken Little's room and did a little rearranging. Walking from her cream colored room, down the cream colored hallway, into the cream colored bathroom and then into the cream colored laundry room, I decided I was sick of cream colored rooms. And don't get me started on that disaster of avocado expolsion that happened in the master bedroom!!!


Papa Rooster took me out Saturday night to choose paint colors--oh and dinner. We had a blast. I felt like we "reconnected". With a six month old and chickens to constantly look after there are days we don't see as much of each other as we'd like. But Saturday evening made up for lost time. We went to Home Depot where (according to Papa Rooster) I chose one of each color sample they had...lol. In fact I had less than 10!!!!! I was so excited when I got home, I began "choosing" right away. The bathroom was the first decision!!! "Fortune Cookie" I was so excited. I could already envision my golden oasis with brown and green accents. But when was I going to paint?

Monday I had somethings to take care of in "town" so I decided to just take the whole day off and do some things around the house. I arrived home at noon-ish and began work immediately. Painting is hard work. But I love the results!!! See for yourself!











Next is the hallway and master bedroom. Since I have so much paint left over from the bathroom, I think I'll paint the master the same color. I'll post results of that and the hallway as soon as they are complete!!
