I found something Monday night. Something I feared had been lost forever. And I found it burried in a pile of unwashed dishes, inside a dirty, stinking crockpot...the last place I'd ever have thought to look. Monday night I found romance. It wasn't gone, just hiding. Who knew that washing smelly dishes could be so romantic? But there we stood, husband and wife, me washing, him rinsing and stacking...laughing and talking, enjoying each others company.
I think as women we often dream of Hollywood romance. Fragrant flowers for no reason at all, sentimental cards just to say "I Love You", unexpected notes on the bathroom mirror....
But then again, that's not everyday life. No, everyday life holds so much more on our farm. There's no time for romantic candle lit dinners for two, no time for a rose petal filled bubble bath, no exotic weekend get-aways...
I'm not Hollywood romanticized. I'm Papa Rooster romanticized...lol.
What could be more romantic that the man I love taking the time to help me with a task that has become overwhelming--and throw laughter in the mix? What could be more romantic than having a husband who enjoys playing with his daughter while mommy gets ready for work or cooks supper? What could be more romantic than a husband who buys a new "toy" so his family can enjoy the farm with him? What's more romantic than knowing your husband gets up every morning, works hard all day, and comes home to you at night?
The next time you look for romance, I hope that you too can find it in the oddest of places. Flowers, cards and candy are "easy". It's the out-of-the-blue little things that make life and marriage romantic!
Have you been romanticized today?
